My project (10)_edited.png
Hello! My name is Dewey Conway and I'm excited that you are visiting my website.

An educator at heart, I've always loved any opportunity to learn and teach what I've learned. It's the same story you may have heard from any educator in the field, yet the same axiom holds true here...
I love everything about learning! Learning theories, instructional design, the technology tools, the learners themselves. All of it! There is nothing more challenging yet more rewarding than designing the right kind of instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

Texas A&M University

Where It Started
I graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor's in History, fulling expecting to spend the rest of my life researching, writing and teaching as a professor at a university. But as
Graphic Design
life would have it, my world shifted upon graduation and I began managing an independent specialty toy store. Soon after, I pursued a freelance career in graphic design, where I learned that through vector and raster design programs I was no longer restricted by physical media and could design and create anything through these tools, a skillset I continue to use to this day.
Teaching and Educational Design
Teaching
In 2007, I decided to enter the world of teaching. During my first year my world view changed, especially in understanding the impact my lessons had on the learning of students. In the following years, technology entering the classroom became more diverse, and education was regarding these tools as a valid means to engage learners. That is how I adopted the mindset of using instructional technology strategies to transform the learning in the classroom.
Instructional Technology
Technology Integration
In 2013, I became a district Instructional Technology coach. As a founding member of this new team, I was responsible for bringing instructional design for technology integration to the classroom at a district-wide level. Working with district currciulum specialists and teachers of all technology proficiencies, I developed a passion for designing training opportunities specializing in classroom technology integration. But in my experiences that first year so long ago, I quickly learned one guiding principle:
Every learning opportunity, every integration strategy, every guided presentation MUST have purpose and meaning for the attendee. My Master's in Instructional Technology, focused on this exact principle, of how to teach adult learners and provide them with MEANINGFUL trainings and learning resources.

The Missing Piece
Connections
When an audience attends a professional learning session with a live presenter, I find that their reaction can go one of two ways: highly engaged or flatline bored. I believe that no matter how well designed the material may be, the connection to the audience is essential. Meaningful and relatable content MUST be coupled with humor, kindness, compassion, and empathy. An adult does not learn from another adult without first connecting to that person and what they're saying in some way.

After eight years of dedicated learning design and instructional coaching, I feel I can end with the following statement as my professional guiding purpose:
I would love to share more with you about my history with instructional technology, learning design, and coaching philosophy. Let me know your thoughts about learning design at deweywconway@gmail.com.
